We have been happy to donate some of our beautiful plants to some local schools, hospitals and care homes. These have included Warren Road School, Hayes Primary School, Darent Valley Hospital and Bishop Justus School. Our key workers are doing such as fantastic job at the moment and we hope the plants help to brighten up their workspaces.

You may have also noticed that we have launched a new website. It has been a long time in the making and we are delighted to have a sleeker, modern look. We hope that it improves your experience of using our website and allows easier navigation of the online shop.

Looking forward, we are hoping that we will be able to reopen soon and are looking into how we can practice social distance effectively. With Spring well underway, we would love to allow our visitors back to see our beautiful site. We will only open when we are sure that we can keep both customers and staff safe and until that time we will continue to offer online deliveries.

  • Coolings Celebrates Third Place for ‘Best UK Plant Area’

We are absolutely delighted to announce that at the annual GCA conference/awards last week (January 23rd 2019) we were awarded third place in the Destination Garden Centre category out of all the national finalists, making us the third best Plant Area to visit in the UK!

Coolings Managing Director, Gary Carvosso adds “

“For our plant area to be judged number three in the UK is very special.  Our seasonal, colour themed displays that start from the front door of our shop and continue through our 5 acres of plant area have been enjoyed by our customers and now by the GCA.  This award is testament to the continued hard work, passion and dedication of the entire Coolings team and it is a fantastic way to start 2019″.

Although the freezing weather at the start of 2018 meant our plant production got off to a slow start, it didn’t manage to deter us from growing the majority of our overall impressive range and quality of plants ourselves, here at our on-site nursery at Rushmore Hill. We enjoyed creative plant displays throughout every season last year. Our hard work didn’t go unnoticed by our customers and by the Garden Centre Association (GCA).

Back in spring 2018 Coolings, and the other GCA member garden centres received visits from GCA inspectors as part of a competition to inspire member garden centres (like us) to maintain best practice to our customers at all times within an inviting and attractive centre. We were judged on our excellent quality, presentation and overall range of plants available as well as the layout of our plant areas. Overall impression, access, use of demonstration areas were also looked at, as well as staff knowledge, customer care and service. Our hard work paid off as the Inspectors’ findings determined Coolings as one of the ten finalists!

As one of the ten finalists, Coolings proceeded to go through to the autumn competition where we were visited again by GCA judge, Michael Cole, in September 2018. He evaluated how well we continued to promote and display plants during the autumn season. Highlights from our autumn GCA inspector visit included 85% score for our Bedding plants and Seasonal displays and a whopping 95% score for our ‘WOW’ factor and Customer Service!

We are now delighted to announce that at annual GCA conference last month (January 2019) we were awarded third place (out of the ten finalists), in the Destination Garden Centre category, making us the third best Plant Area to visit in the UK!

  • A BIG Thank You from our House to Yours!

Many of you will have enjoyed our Summer Flower Exhibition back in July.  Our very large house full of flowers was well received and the 200 plus plants were enjoyed by everyone that visited us.  Some of our favourite comments taken from our guest book include:

“Brilliant floral displays as usual, and a really touching memorial”.

“A spectacular display and a wonderful tribute”.

    “An absolutely wonderful display”.

“A pleasure to visit.  A wonderful display of colour”.

Those of you that visited us will know that this year’s exhibition was a floral tribute to Evan Shonfield, who worked with us here in Arthurs Restaurant before his very sad and sudden death last year at the age of 20.  All your generous donations were therefore, sent off to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Evan.

Together we raised £1,560.38.  Thank you to everyone who kindly donated to support the continuing good work of Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Looking forward to next year already!

  • Welcome to Hairy Hounds – NEW Dog Grooming Service

Hairy Hounds is owned and managed by Francine Bennett.  They have just moved their successful small business from the Sevenoaks Veterinary Practice to their very own bespoke grooming room inside Coolings (next to Waggles Pet Emporium).

Hairy Hounds recognise that the customers’ needs are of the utmost importance and are deeply committed to meeting those needs.  Our dogs are important to us all and Laura and Fran strive to ensure their visit is as relaxing and as positive as possible.

When you enter the grooming salon, Fran will chat through your dog’s history and likes/dislikes and discuss the grooming procedures you would like to be carried out on your dog.  It is extremely important to Fran that your dog is groomed in a way you would like it.  Your dog will never be left alone and is with someone at all times with plenty of treats to hand.  Hairy Hounds can make your pet feel as special as they make you feel.
