  • Plant Shrubs Now, Enjoy Forever! DO NOT REPUBLISH DUE TO IMAGE COPYRIGHT

Choose the most suitable shrubs to plant now and you really will enjoy them forever more! Shrubs create gentle backdrops in the summer months, and then in winter take centre stage with their contrasting foliage. Now is a great time to plant shrubs, especially in containers. If you are planting shrubs in the ground, avoid planting them when the ground is waterlogged or frozen.

All of the shrubs listed below grow in most well-drained soils. We recommend planting in Coolings Rose, Tree & Shrub Compost and adding slow-release food.

If you live locally, one of our Coolings team members will deliver your order straight to your door from just £3.99. See our delivery information here.

  • COVID UPDATE: All Four Centres Closed

    Dear Customers,

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement last night of a national lockdown we are fortunate that Garden Centres remain classified as essential retail and we are still allowed to be open.
However, after careful consideration we feel it is safest for our team and all of our customers to close all four of our centres from 5pm on Tuesday 5th January until Monday 1st February. With an increase in ‘R’ rate being significant in the areas surrounding all of our centres we feel this is the right thing to do to protect all of us.

We will continue to offer you the opportunity to get out in your gardens with everything you need from plants to tools and accessories available via our online shop: www.coolings.co.uk/shop/.

As our Early Bird sale will not be available in-store we will be making it available online from Monday 11th January.

Skeleton staff will be busy preparing the centre for the season ahead and caring for the plants.

Please keep an eye on our social pages for any further updates or visit our FAQ page for further information: www.coolings.co.uk/faqs

Thank you for your continued support.

Please note that planned improvement works are being carried out at Coolings Green & Pleasant and this site is due to re-open on Monday 8th February.

  • Christmas Tree Out, Houseplant In!

    Spathiphyllum (Peace lily)

Easy, low maintenance and peaceful, just as their common name suggests. A Peace Lily will make the perfect addition to any room but preferably a home with low light. They won’t take up much of your time, just a weekly water and in return they will emerge with white flowers from their glossy, oval leaves. Just when you thought a Peace Lily couldn’t give anymore, they are also one of the best air purifiers!

    Dypsis lutescens (Areca palm)

Perfect for giving a tropical vibe to any space whilst we all dream of the day we can be in warmer climates again. Treat them well with a light spot but not in direct sunlight, water a few times a week during the summer but not so much during the winter.

    Nephrolepsis exaltata (Green Lady)

One of the most popular ferns, perhaps because of their striking yet elegant arching fronds.  Perfect for displaying in a hanging basket or in a high positioned pot where it can cascade over the edge. An easy-going houseplant, requiring moderate light requirements from bright, indirect sunlight to light shade and remember to keep the soil moist at all times.

    Houseplant Feed and Accessories

To ensure your houseplant is kept in its best possible condition we recommend feeding regularly with Baby Bio Houseplant Food (£2.99 – 175ml). We also recommend treating your houseplant to Houseplant Myst (£4.99 – 300ml) which gives complete care including nutrients, growth enhancer, pest repellent and leaf conditioner. See individual plant labels for care instructions.

To give your space an extra trendy finishing touch choose an indoor plant pot or basket to stand your new houseplant in, we have a range of pots and baskets available in-store to suit all interiors.
